Pick up in Launceston and transfer to the bottom of the Great Western Tiers to meet your guides and fellow guests, enjoy a homemade morning tea and take part in a briefing of the four days of incredible adventure to come.
Todays’ walk is a gradual incline up to the Central Highlands where a guide will be waiting to transfer you the short drive to our Central Highlands Base Camp. Your accommodation, “The Central Highlands Base Camp” is a four bedroom, two bathroom nicely appointed lodge style establishment. It is a fabulous place to use as a base for a bushwalking adventure . The position is remote with commanding views of the Great Lake. The whole area is dotted with the world’s best trout fishing highland lakes and alpine wilderness.
You will, of course, enjoy this accommodation exclusively to your group with full catering and the focus on Tasmania’s best food and wine.
Approx. walk time (5 hours)
After a hearty bushwalkers breakfast, tie your laces and choose one of the many trails available to your guide, that suits you best in the local area. This could involve walking out the lodge door to hike up the local craggy peak of “Split Rock” with magnificent 360 degree birds eye views. Wedgetail eagles may cast a shadow over you as they soar above.
Walk time approx. 4.5 to 6 hours – Lake Ada to Lake Fanny
Again start the day with a hearty breakfast to ensure you can tackle any trail. Skittleball Bluff at 1204m will be on the cards…
After a short transfer we will head out from little Pine lagoon and observe Tasmania’s unique fauna – wombats and wallabies in abundance before we climb up the bluff to enjoy spectacular view during a our lunch break.
Walk time: approx. 4 hours
We transfer to Little Pine Lake for a final soak in the landscape and to bid farewell to the highlands before finding the track that descends into the hamlet of Jackeys Marsh following a creek that creates a delightful series of pools and small waterfall. You will be met by our ever faithful transport guide who will head you off to a delicious lunch at a local restaurant and get you back to Launceston for your flight or accommodation booking. (approx. 4pm)
